SCSI parity error; software- or hardware-problem?
Is it likely this is a hardware problem? I use Norton Internet Security 2001 (firewall and anti virus) and wonder if this could be a contributing factor although the problems with the computer rebooting started before I loaded this software. The symptoms you describe point toward software problems.

Hardware problems?
I think your right to be concerned, it does sound like a hardware problem. Does anyone know a good way to test a DIMM. I tried recompiling the kernel like the document I read mentioned, but I didn't have any troubles. Usually that would catch a memory problem but maybe not if it was just in a small portion of the

Exchange the system; that's a hardware problem. That boot up screen is part of the system, not a game (which is verified by you noting it coming up the same way, even with no game in the system). I don't know anything about the Blue Stinger situation. -- Raymond remove "suchiepai" for email.

Is this a problem with the board, I thought all the PCI slots were identical, and the system could not tell the difference between them. Hardware problems are worse in the cold and the weather. No doubt the dealer never looked very hard for the problem. Much easier to deny it existed. Has anyone else encountered this or come up with a solution? I have a 1998 V70 bought new, and a 1998 S70 bought used. Neither have ever had a hint of this problem.

The 500ppm limit is supposed to be for hardware frequency error correction, not hardware frequency + software error correction. Now, if it were 1-10ppm, I would see the point if this problem had actually any practically relevance, but this error is not a problem for pretty much all existing standard hardware.

They also state that since this is a problem that happens with W2K and not Win98, that it must be a W2K problem. Of course, I don't buy this, since W2K likely has more built-in hardware checking, and if there were a W2K problem, I assume that it would be a MAJOR issue, since I have a plain-vanilla off-the-shelf
