Possible Hardware problem
A hardware problem which has nothing to do with Linux to your list. It sounds very suspicious that your BIOS needs several attempts to find the hard disk. The controller on the mainboard may also be defective. Are any disk access failures reported in /var/log/messages?

Help - is this a hardware problem?
Everything was working fine and the drivers for all hardware seemed to install with no problems. I was about an hour into installing software ( Quake3, Paintshop Pro etc ) when the pc locked up. It records first 2 megs of iso image and then displays "hardware error". Check for an out-of-date or corrupt BIOS, bad or incompatible RAM, or an IRQ conflict.

Video visioning not working properly
The CPU uses 9 * 100 MHz - so it's not overclocked. I'm using Windows 2000 and have the latest drivers installed - it anyway seems to be a hardware problem. Sometimes before, it occured that the CPU goes up to 80 degrees, but the cooler is adjusted and working properly. I would be very glad, if someone may help me

Please Help! Hardware-Problems with SUSE 9.1
Rear jack microphone is working for recording but the issue is the audio being recorded cannot be heard from speakers. After I stop recording I can play and hear the recording but not while I am recording it. Has someone faced this and has some solutions for me? Let me make it clear that same hardware works

If it is a hardware problem, is there a way to pinpoint exactly what it is? Only trial and error; replace and test, replace and test.

I find it very hard to beleive that Sun's hardware would be of such inferior quality that hardware failures would be significantly higher. It's not true of Sun kit in general(?)
