Henri Leboeuf hlebo...@generation.net comp os ms-windows win95 misc It's a hardware problem. When a sector is bad it cannot be fixed. Do a scandisk periodically and if you see the bad sectors increase, I would change my HD disk. As for the applications that are not running, they must be reinstall.

on a TECO system with Pentium MMX @ 200mhz & 32Mb RAM, I have just reformatted & partioned the hard drive, then installed Win 98 and then the SE upgrade. The system is now having problems detecting the hardware. Firstly the moniter is not supported, and I can't get a display any better than 16 colours at

That means it has comprehensive hardware diagnostics so that you know immediately whether it is hardware or software AND maybe details of that problem.

Strange hardware problem! Voltage values incorrect & PC doesn ...
I hadn't installed any hardware, and my only software installs were automatic. I don't shut down very often. The last few days I have been shutting down more often - whenever my Intellimouse gets unbearably slow or stops (new problem). Restarting fixes that problem. I have checked for viruses, I have had Microsoft

Os/2 Warp return rate, and hardware problems
If the trouble does not appear with a fresh installation, the trouble is caused by something you have added to Win95/98 (but something that is not turned off by Safe Mode). 3. If the trouble occurs even with a fresh install of Windows, the trouble is arising in hardware. Safe Mode does the following: (a) bypasses

Headset in front jack not working
Remove (disconnect) the mouse and run completely without a mouse, to verify that it really is the mouse that's the problem. The freezings might still show up. If so, the mouse wasn't the real problem. 2. Try a serial mouse instead, or a PS/2 to COM, just to see what happens... There might be a hardware problem with

hardware Problem?
It's not a hard ware fault as the user has said it works fine using a linux disk so it has to be a windows problem, the other post suggesting get hold, a look at the 4 leds on the back of the system labled abcd. these provide error codes. if a is off and cde are on then that suggests a usb hardware problem.

Strange hardware problem
Definitely not a Windows screen. I believe it's an Intel message from the cpu diagnosing a hardware error (perhaps cpu or mobo). All fans are working (cpu, case and psu). MBM5 (MotherboardMonitor). The MBM temperature results are different from the Bios readings. case 141F/61C cpu 30F/-1C sensor3 32F/OC core0

usb ports not working in xp pro
Two things that could cause this are a bad partition table and a hardware problem. Might want to check the swap partition itself for bad blocks (using "badblocks" of course) and use cfdisk or fdisk to look at the partition table and make sure you don't have overlapping cylinders or something.

floppy drive not working
From the days of Micro-Vax II's (ie. mid 1980's) Digital proved that it could build a machine which would be so well constructed that static electricity discharges from a normal office environment would not cause problems. Are Sun engineers still unable to design the hardware to cope with these situations ?

"alexB" wrote: It is more of a hardware problem believe it or not. The thing is that some motherboards have internal watchdogs to make sure that USB ports are not overloaded since they consume on average 500 mA of current. This mechanism of kicking off some additional USB ports also involves the OS, or course.

question again, hardware or software problem?
The BC21E (color) cartridges are working fine for color and black printing. I earlier reported that color would not print but that was incorrect. The problem is with our FOUR black only cartridges, they will print but the print is very, very faint. It's hard to believe that all four cartridges could go bad at once,

Hardware, IDE or ext3 problem?
System: Pentium 100MHz, 16MB RAM, Western Digital 850MB HD, Sony 4x CD-Rom Drive Vendor: Imatrex Model: Predator I think it's a hardware problem. I tried to re-install Windows95, both on the "existing" hard drive, after re-formatting it AND after a low-level format. Sometimes the system would hang during install.

HELP!! - Vista Startup Repair Not Working
"the floppy disk is not formatted". I have tried re- formatting and it says Windows cannot format. What is the problem??? W2K for one of several reasons is unable to read from or write to the floppy disk. Hard to say why. Most likely it's a hardware problem, so eliminate that possibility first.

CPU usage 100%, computer temperature becomes to hot!
I can confirm (repeatable) that machine x running NT 3.51sp5 or 4.0b1 without a Matrox does NOT raise CRC errors. update to 4.0 and... bang! CRC's. I'd call that a driver problem :-} Actually it's a hardware problem, but it is one that is 'fixable' in the drivers, for a small loss of performance.

hardware problem ?
But unfortunately, I've had weak help so far, and I'm not inclined to spend $150 and a week on new hardware, or several days re-installing all my currently working apps if I don't need to. The RAM test you recommended is for Pentium & Celeron, aparently not Xeon processor. After my long story, do you still think

Data Execution Prevention not working
I only had limited time, and I only got it sort of working; I couldn't get it to boot directly, so we used the boot diskette to boot. I think the problem is either defective hardware (motherboard), or incorrect settings. It's quite possible that the hardware is broken by design, though it's becoming less common.

Windows Protection Error, 'configmg' error -- hardware problem?
Apart from the touchpad all the hardware was working. No I have installed SuSE 9.1 (as a clean install, not as an update) and the first thing was that the size of the display was not detected, so I had to fix the problem manually. The next problem appeared with the CD-RW drive. The type of the drive was correctly
