hardware not working

I just instaled vista beta2 and both my usb ports and sound are not working acording to the vista upgrade advisor they should work but i get an error message on the device manager about both devices not having eniugh resources can some1 help???

Sounds like a BIOS ACPI compliancy issue. Vista is Advanced Configuration & Power Interface only OS. The older "Standard PC" HAL cannot be used. Resource allocation probably means the BIOS reported itself as ACPI compliant but then when the actual configuration took place it was unable to assign dedicated resources. Might help if you provided PC specs or Vendor/model.

Thanks - Even being ~4.5-5 Years old that motherboard should be ACPI compliant. Have you checked to see how many downstream revisions your BIOS is from the latest on the vendor website ? I would also check your BIOS settings and see if there is an ACPI enable option. Many motherboards from that time frame had that provision, especially VIA Chipset ones. Dual CPU boards are a specialty configuration, so it's difficult to offer exacting advice on how to proceed.

I just checked the device manager again and found 3 entries regarding ACPI ACPI Fan ACPI Fixed Feauture Button ACPI Thermal Zone All this are reported under VISTA

Checked the bios and ACPI is enabled any other ideas plz help i really like the look of vista but no sound and having to use an old ps2 mouse due to no usb is frustrating

Do this: 1.) Add a System Environment Variable named. DevMgr_Show_NonPresent_Devices 2.) Set it's value = 1 3.) Open Device Manager 4.) Click View, Tic/Check "Show Hidden Devices" 5.) Check for presence of category "Unknown Devices" 6.) Also any devices with Red X or Yellow Exclamation point Also, from System Tools run System Information. Expand the Hardware/Resources category and click the sub-option called "Conflicts/Sharing". ( It will be normal to see devices sharing IRQs). What I suspect is your Motherboard has no APIC which extends IRQs beyond 15 up to 23. Your issue may be that the MB is ACPI compliant but doesn't have adequate number of IRQs to allocate to devices.

On the device manager both usb and audio have a yellow exclamation point and give me the following error: This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)

Seems like an IRQ allocation issue. Most ACPI (Newer) MBs will have available IRQs up to 23. Since your setup is capped at 16 it's definitely run out of IRQ lines to use. You might still want to check your BIOS settings for other items that conflict with ACPI, like Advanced Power Management (APM) and how your PCI slots are configured. Some motherboards share IRQs on particular slots. Most times, only slots 2/5 have what's called "Independent IRQ Allocation".
Not sure about these new "Pseudo" IRQs in the 80+ range. It's definitely a new hardware feature of Vista. My new Sony Vaio notebook has IRQs that extend up to 190.

Thanks - Even being ~4.5-5 Years old that motherboard should be ACPI compliant. Have you checked to see how many downstream revisions your BIOS is from the latest on the vendor website ? I would also check your BIOS settings and see if there is an ACPI enable option. Many motherboards from that time frame had that provision, especially VIA Chipset ones. Dual CPU boards are a specialty configuration, so it's difficult to offer exacting advice on how to proceed.

Sounds like a BIOS ACPI compliancy issue. Vista is Advanced Configuration & Power Interface only OS. The older "Standard PC" HAL cannot be used. Resource allocation probably means the BIOS reported itself as ACPI compliant but then when the actual configuration took place it was unable to assign dedicated resources. Might help if you provided PC specs or Vendor/model.

Seems like an IRQ allocation issue. Most ACPI (Newer) MBs will have available IRQs up to 23. Since your setup is capped at 16 it's definitely run out of IRQ lines to use. You might still want to check your BIOS settings for other items that conflict with ACPI, like Advanced Power Management (APM) and how your PCI slots are configured. Some motherboards share IRQs on particular slots. Most times, only slots 2/5 have what's called "Independent IRQ Allocation".
Not sure about these new "Pseudo" IRQs in the 80+ range. It's definitely a new hardware feature of Vista. My new Sony Vaio notebook has IRQs that extend up to 190.
